::software:: Share your soul

We should be always careful about things that we do before we go to sleep, it might decide if you are able to sleep at all.

Last Sunday night I decided to check one thing in Google right before I went to bed "sharing itunes library over internet". I had done that before, but nothing really exciting had come up. But the beauty about internet is that sometimes when many people ask about something, it means that a demand has been generated and sooner or later, the answer pops up.

I had seen some software that would allow people to "see" my music library over the internet, but they would need to have a mac. I wish all my friends had a mac, because I wish them the best, but unfortunately this isn't the case yet. But now there's a really simple piece of software that can do the trick: www.simplifymedia.com. This little thing is available for macs, PCs, Linux and iPhone! You simply install it, create a screen name if you don't have any yet, and the info about your library is prepared to be shared. My collection took some minutes to be ready, but I have a huge collection of songs. After that you can invite up to 30 friends to join you on this exciting idea of ubiquitous music.

Here's how the software works:

And on the iPhone:

I am really happy that from my iPhone I will be able to check my entire library and playlists as well as my friends' wherever I go (as long as the computers holding the libraries are on). This opens a myriad of new possibilities of interactions and will eventually improve awareness of new artists and alternative groups.

Now I can simply tell a friend: hey, check out the new CD from "Anthony and the Johnsons" on my library, they are great! No need to send the songs through e-mail or upload/download them.

Actually I liked the fact that you have a limited number of people to whom you can share your library and that one is not allowed to download other's songs. This way you are really sharing your "soul" with only your dearest! ;-)
